What's New > Pumpkins

Here's all the info on our fun with pumpkins. We're having a grand time. Read this page to learn about the Pumpkin Patch, Pumpkin Fair, Halloween Party, and even...The Blessing of the Truck!

Pumpkin Patch

If you drive by the church, you'll notice it immediately. An ocean of orange. We're selling pumpkins this year. We're doing this to make a little money, but it also gives us a great opportunity to get to know our neighbors. You might be interested to know that the pumpkins come from New Mexico. They're grown on a Navajo reservation. Every year, the organization that we're working with donates $2 million to the Navajo for land use fees. So when you buy a pumpkin, you're helping the work and ministry of SMG and you're also helping people across the country.

Pumpkins range in price from $3 to $12. We also have mini-pumpkins for $1.50 or $.75. After we unloaded, Mike DeAngelo provided our official count: over 1100 mini-pumpkins and over 700 pumpkins. It's an impressive site.

Besides pumpkins, we're selling gourds, ornamental corn, and some house plants. Please stop by. The Pumpkin Patch is open every day through October 31 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

If you are a member of SMG, you can help with this project! We need pumpkin sales consultants -- that means you sit outside and sell pumpkins. We also will need cleanup help after the Pumpkin Patch sells its last pumpkin. Call the church office to learn how you can help.

Pumpkin Fair

Come to a grand celebration of pumpkin-ness on October 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Of course, our pumpkin patch will be open. Our Thrift Shop will be open. We'll also have an indoor yard sale, book sale, crafts, baked goods, face painting, and much more. You can stay the whole time, because we'll also be serving lunch.

Halloween Party!

Our October fun would not be complete without a costume party, so naturally we're throwing a party. After our 10:30 service on October 29, come to the Parish Hall for a grand Halloween Party. If you're at church that day you may just see ghosts and goblins at the service!

The blessing of the...truck?

Motown and Edwin, the drivers our our pumpkin delivery truck, asked if their truck could be blessed. Never ones to say "no" to a request for a blessing, your intrepid priests stepped right up. The Book of Common Prayer lacks the correct prayers for "The Blessing of the Semi" so we whipped up a batch of holy water and created some prayers for the occasion. (We blessed the drivers too!)
